What's it all about?

Discover the Magnalonga

Embark on a delicious ramble through the rolling Shropshire countryside with Ludlow Magnalonga; an 8-mile walk featuring food and drink from the region’s producers. This unique experience blends the joy of walking through rolling Shropshire countryside with the pleasure of sampling tasty artisan food and drinks along the way.

Now in its twenty-first year, this event gives you the opportunity to explore our lovely landscape along a carefully planned and waymarked route. As you eat up the miles you’ll also work through a tantalising menu - featuring delicious offerings from local producers. Start your journey with a light bite and refreshing drink at the first stop, then a hot dish and another locally brewed beverage at stop 2, followed by a delicious dessert and cocktail option at stop 3, finishing off back at base with a cheese course and final drink. We also keep walkers hydrated throughout the day with locally bottled spring water and refill stops along the route. It’s not a race, enjoy it at your own pace and take in the views as you enjoy the tasty food stops along the way.

You’ll traverse footpaths, woodland trails and quiet country tracks, and be treated to panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The route may include stiles, hills, and rugged tracks so sturdy footwear is a must, but your efforts will be rewarded with hearty food and drink at every stop. We are spoilt for choice of walking routes in this area, so our team vary the route each year.

Organised by the Ludlow Marches Food & Drink Festival Team, this event draws inspiration from a successful tradition in Ludlow's twin town of San Pietro in Cariano, Italy, renowned for its winemaking heritage.

Four-legged friends
Dogs are welcome to join walkers, provided that they remain on a short lead and owners clean up after them. However, due to the nature of the terrain and narrow pathways in places, we cannot guarantee that the route is suitable for very large dogs.
